Excerpt from the Book

“Luke?” Maggie’s voice was husky with sleep.

“It’s all right, baby. Go back to sleep.”

The sheets rustled and the bedside lamp snapped on, creating a small pool of light that illuminated her tense face.“You’re leaving?”

He heard the disappointment in her voice, saw it in her dark eyes, even in the dim light.

“If I don’t leave now, my grandmother will know I’ve been with you all night. Harper and Ethan will see my truck here in the morning, and they’ll know we slept together.”

“Harper and Ethan are staying in Minneapolis tonight, but even if they were home, it wouldn’t matter. I don’t give a damn what anyone thinks, not even my family. We’re grownups now. We don’t have to sneak around to be together like we did when we were kids.” She lowered her gaze, her hands clutching the sheet to her breasts. “Unless you don’t want anyone to know. Unless you’d rather not be here.”

“Maggie—”

“It’s okay, really.” She looked away and shrugged a small shoulder. “It’s no big deal.”

He couldn’t leave her like this. He sat on the bed beside her and stroked her hair. “It’s a big deal to me. There’s nothing I want more than to stay, but it wouldn’t be fair to you.”

Her eyes flashed in disbelief. “Wouldn’t be fair to me? What are you talking about?”

“In a few weeks, after my mother is…gone, I’ll go back to my job in California. And you’ll be here.”

“And never the twain shall meet?”

“It’s not what I want, but it’s reality.”

“What about what I want, right here, right now? Maybe we don’t have forever. Nobody does. If I’ve learned anything from your mother’s illness, it’s that we can’t take anything for granted. We can’t let uncertainty and fear stop us. If we only have a short time together, so be it. At least,we’ll have had that time. I won’t regret it.”

She was amazing. She was still the strong, forthright, vibrant girl he’d fallen in love with that summer.

And he had loved her. Deeply. They’d been far too young to sustain a lasting relationship. But that didn’t mean he hadn’t loved her.

I still love her. I never stopped.

The sudden insight rocked him.

Praise for the Book

This is a different type of read for me. I usually read historical novels with some romance in them. However I did warm to all the characters and read into the early hours of the morning, as I couldn't put it down. . I hadn't read Books 1 and 2 but found this one easy to read as a stand alone.

Truth and Solace is book three in the Love at Solace Lake series. It’s not only a nice continuation of the series it’s an emotional read… This is Maggie and Luke’s story but it is so much more since it encompasses everyone…We watch them take one step forward and two or three back since they’re both afraid to feel. There were family and friends, happiness, sadness, tears and laughter, reminisces, anger, fear, heartache, sorrow, holidays. celebrations, food, romance, loving and love. The descriptions of the weather, the land, the town, the lodge, the cottages and Abby’s home made me feel that I was there…The characters all had a depth to them and we learned more about them as their layers were pulled back.

Richards is a new to me author only having read this series. I look forward to reading more contemporary romances that she writes.

This was a wonderful series about three sisters whose lives changed the day it was believed their father killed their mother and himself but what really happened is revealed in this book in addition to a few surprises that were never hinted at in the previous two. I highly recommend this series.

While I enjoyed all the the books in the series this was by far my favourite. This was probably due to the fact that the author did such a wonderful job of building on the initial books and gave all the answers I was waiting for. She did a fantastic job of keeping me interested and engaged through the entire series and especially through this last book. I am sad to see the series end; however, I am looking forward to reading more from this author. I laughed and cried during this last book.

Yet again, the author has written a fantastic book. The past backstory and the current plotlines weave together and mirror each other in a complex way that was beautifully done…Yet again, this author is not afraid to address difficult and taboo topics, which are not common in contemporary romance…If you haven't read the other books and enjoy heartfelt contemporary romance, I suggest you start with Book 1 and make it to this one because the journey of the characters in these novels is amazing to watch unfold.

This is such a good series!!! The 3rd book, Maggie and Luke’s story is great. Each sister has her own story and Maggie's brings them all together. I am a reader and not a writer so it is hard for me express how much loved this book, it is heartwarming, tragic and satisfying that is an awesome for an author to convey.. I recommend this series!! Thank you Jana Richards.
